Transition North Berwick (TNB) is a community group, open to all, for North Berwick and its surrounding area. Its aim is to address the related global problems of climate change and over-reliance on fossil fuels by developing local scale projects that will lead to a stronger, more sustainable community and a more vibrant local economy. For more information about our current projects see Our Groups section. TNB has been set up based on the boundary of the 'North Berwick Coastal' ward (view map). It includes the town of North Berwick together with the surrounding villages of Direlton, Gullane, Aberlady, Drem and Whitekirk. A growing number of East Lothian towns like Dunbar (Sustaining Dunbar), Haddington (Sustainable Haddington) and Stenton (Carbon Neutral Stenton) also have community groups of this kind and we have good links with them.
To manage our member list more effectively and provide other online functions we also have a dedicated site at TNB GroupSpaces.
Forthcoming events and useful dates:
Next Social Drinks Night: date/venue to be confirmed. All welcome.
NB Living - a Community Survey - Results now available
What's the Carbon Footprint of North Berwick?
We are currently working with the North Berwick High School on a joint project to analyse the carbon footprint of households and use this information to try and estimate a figure for the wider community. We are utilising the internationally recognised carbon footprint calculation tool for communities - Reap Petite. We hope to make a version of this survey available online soon so anyone living in the NB Coastal ward can complete it - watch this space! The work will take place over the period to March 2011. If you'd like to know more do email us - we will also try to update people on these developments through the Discussion Forum.
If you'd like to know more about TNB please have a read through these web pages, come to one of our public events and explore our online Discussion Forum. The forum is a great way to keep in touch with everyone. If you register for this online forum we can then keep you informed of forthcoming meetings, discussions and developments. Alternatively you can email us at transitionnb@googlemail.com.
